I have acquired a specific talent for music that has shaped my life in so many ways. The first instrument I studied was piano and after just a few lessons I found my passion. Since then I have grown in skill and technique. I am now a member of the my high school's band and many of its sectors. I play a different instrument in each ensemble including Tenor Saxophone, Marimba, and Oboe. Some of these sectors include marching band, indoor percussion, and the Indiana band master's association state honor band. The ways this talent has shaped my life are numerous. One of the ensembles I participate in, marching Band, demands so much time, energy, and skill.In this group I am the section leader of the saxophone section. Marching band in particular has shaped my life the most because it taught me how to multitask. Multitasking is a crucial part of this activity because when you march a show you must be able to play, march, and sometimes do body visuals all at the same time. I started participating in this group when I was about thirteen years old. I am still a part of this ensemble and I am also the section leader of the pit. This is a huge improvement from when I began playing Marimba. When I started, I could barely read the music let alone play it. Now I can play four mallets at one time with no problem. This ensemble has taught me that hard work always pays off. Learning how to play another instrument is very difficult, but the talent that I acquired will stay with me for the rest of my life. I have always been the type of person to come early or stay late to help others learn their music and I feel that indoor really brought that out in me.
