Option #4: “Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, why is it meaningful to you?”

It was a perfect Christmas Eve in Bradenton, Florida 2005. It’s about 68 degrees outside with a little breeze. It’s cool enough to wear jeans, but not cool enough to wear a jacket; however since it’s Florida it’s pretty humid so I could wear shorts if I wanted. I’m home alone with my older brother. My mom is on call at the hospital, and dad is out of town on a business trip and is supposed to be coming home tonight, but his plane got delayed.
There’s no one to cook us a nice Christmas Eve dinner, watch Christmas movies or eat Christmas cookies with us. This year my brother and I were flying solo; but it was nothing to get too sad over, it has happened every year for the past five years. I was pretty bummed out this year, 2005 because both my parents had promised they would be home this year; I should have seen it coming. So I thought I’d do something that I enjoyed and so I grabbed my fishing pole, my iPod, and some bait from the outside refrigerator and headed out to the lake behind my house to go fishing.
Fishing always helped me forget about my troubles and just relax for awhile. Fishing at night, is especially peaceful because the scenery is just amazing. The moon, is so bright. I don’t need a flashlight to walk around at night. When I look up at the sky I see millions of stars. It’s the kind of view I can’t see in the city. In Tampa there are too many tall buildings and lights everywhere. But in Bradenton, thirty miles away from the city I can see everything. There are shooting stars left and right. It’s so quiet; I don’t hear any cars driving by, helicopters flying above, or airplanes in the sky.
When I went to cast my line into the lake I stopped for a second and just stared at the water. It was like glass. I could see the reflection of the moon and stars on the surface. It was simply amazing. Once I cast my line out I turned on my iPod and listened to some Christmas music. Not the fast upbeat kind, but the slower kind, like “Silent Night.”
