A nurse is defined as “a person trained to care for the sick”. While I agree with this definition, I do believe that there is more to being a nurse than being “trained” to be one. Nursing is more than a job, it is a way of life. There isn’t a switch that you turn on and off to care for others, it’s a 24-hour job. While it can be a stressful and high demanding profession, it does come with it’s rewards. Your able to go about your days knowing that for a living, you do your best to make sure others feel as good as possible.
With the constant change in the economy I wanted to choose a profession that was secure and provided unlimited opportunities. I feel I would be a good fit in the nursing profession because of my ability to empathize and be compassionate towards others, all while still managing to pay close attention to details to ensure patients receive the proper care they need. My response was always something different. I wanted to be everything that I possibly could think of. One day a cheerleader, a happy perky girl who smiled at a crowd of people. I wanted to be a hairstylist, to help people feel better about themselves. I wanted to be a singer and a dancer to bring joy to people. Now that I am "older", what did I end up doing? I joined the United States Navy. You may be reading this and thinking, you wanted to be all those things what made you join the military? I joined because I wanted to be apart of something much bigger than myself. What all those dream careers had in common, was helping people, making people feel better. Another question that may arise is "Well, how is being in the military going to do all those things?". The answer is that joining the service, I understood the sacrifice I was making. The sacrifice I made was contributing to helping people feel better by feeling safer in this
