Personal Statement: A Career In Physical Therapy

My goal in life is to own a physical therapy practice. My job is to equip myself with the knowledge and dedication to obtain my doctorate degree. Recently, I have been afforded the opportunity to shadow a few physical therapist. These experiences have deepened my interest in the field. I enjoy helping people, but my reasoning for becoming a physical therapist is deeper than that. It interests me to become familiar with each patient's condition and to find a way to help them move past it. Watching their progress is astonishing. Physical therapy is a humbling job. Shadowing has helped me realized I take many things for granted; the ability to walk, get out of a chair, even the seemingly simple task of getting out of bed. If I could help one person per day, I would help 365 people per year. With my own clinic, I will help an innumerable amount more. The thought of being able to touch so many lives is the only incentive I need to reach my goal. I did not choose this career for the salary, although that is a plus. I chose this occupation when I was nine years old, way before I even knew the starting salary.
