For such a big planet that we live on, you’d think we would be invincible, nothing can harm us or our planet, but the only thing that harms us is ourselves. I’ve come back in retrospect from 2016 to warn everyone about climate change, and the devastating facts that climate change affects everyone, whether you are a surfer, a farmer, or even someone who works in a factory. Climate change is what we use to describe what is happening to our planet. Carbon dioxide is being released into the atmosphere everyday from the burning and use of fossil fuels. Climate change is a world-wide problem due to the rising of temperatures,melting of the Arctic and if you’re a surfer, well, the changing of famous surf spots(Urton). To start, in the video “Climate Change Explained”, the narrator claims that the Earth’s temperature has gone up 1.7 degrees fahrenheit from the 1880’s to 2016. Although this doesn’t seem like a lot, the narrator proceeds to tell us that when all the glacier caps melt, the ocean will rise 80-160feet. The ocean rising this high means that we will have Cities, Countries and land all go underneath the ocean. In the article “Climate Change may flatten famed surfing waves,” the article reads that California waves are open-ocean storms that send waves to the coast. By 2100 though, the storms can shift, sending their swells on a course away from the coast rather than to the coast.
