In some states owning a gun is legal, but does that mean you should buy one? At some point in life, owning a gun can feel safe, however, it can also be your biggest threat to others. More than 13 thousand people were killed last year by firearms and more than 28 thousand were injured. So, are there really any benefits of owning a gun? Personally, I believe you’re better off not owning one.

Firstly, in our environment, guns are not safe, even if you keep them at home, it can lead to many severe consequences. Do you have any children at home? What if they find the gun? With today's media, you never know what a child may do with a weapon in their hands. Even if you hide your gun at some place you’d think no one would find it, you should never underestimate the curiosity of a child. Some people hit the trigger button while being angry or in depression which is why it’s very important that they actually implement laws to examine whether you’re qualified to be equipped with a gun. As a result, it would reduce the amount of people getting killed every year and also reduce a number of gun accidents.

However, owning a gun isn’t always negative, you never know if something horrible is going to happen. There are actually many people purchasing guns to protect themselves and their family from danger. It’s not always the damage you can do with it that makes you want to buy one, instead the confidence you get from owning one. For an example, if you wake up during the night because of some sound coming from the kitchen you would feel much safer having a gun next to you rather than being empty handed. Personally, I would have felt so much safer carrying a gun when inspecting the sound instead of going empty
