Many adults and teenagers don’t believe that a small action such as texting while driving can cause a huge impact on them or someone else. Driving is one of the most dangerous things a person can do each day because we put our lives on someone else's hand who sadly may sometimes be under the influence of alcohol or even worse distracted by their cell phone. As time goes by the number of accidents that happen each year is caused by drivers who believe they can multitask behind the wheel, and decide to text and drive believing it’s perfectly fine. Many people nowadays can’t be without their phone. Some use it when they are eating, in class, at work, in the restroom, and sadly as they are driving. However, many of them don’t take in consideration that if they are driving and texting at the same time they can cause their own death. There are approximately 330,000 injuries that are caused by people who without realizing it they are putting their life at risk the moment they pick up their phone. According to Nina Combs, a copy editor and proofreader, “In 2008, almost 6,000 people were killed and half a million were injured in crashes related to driver distraction” (Combs). Clearly many people aren’t aware of how dangerous it can be when texting and driving at the same time. They aren’t only putting their life at risk because some drivers sometimes have passengers which can include children.
