Persuasive Essay: Concealed Carry In Schools

Concealed Carry in School Wayne LaPierre, CEO and executive vice president of NRA, recently stated, “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” These good guys need to be the teachers in our schools protecting our students from harm. Teachers can’t protect their students unless they have a concealed carry with them. Although some people think that guns do not make a school safer, they will allow the students and teachers to not be defenseless. Teachers should be allowed to conceal and carry because the school will have some sort of protection against the criminals. With a concealed carry the students and teachers have a chance to defend themselves. More than two dozen states across the US allow legally gun-owning adults to carry in public schools (Murphy). One of these, Utah, hasn’t had a fatal K-12 school shooting in the 10 years since concealed carry has been allowed (Murphy). This shows that having guns in school actually helps with the safety of people because the number of shootings goes down. Although guns should be allowed in school, many people do not agree with concealed carry. One reason is they think the teachers might be the ones attacking the school, but teachers are required to have a thorough background check. They need a background check when they get their teaching license, and when they get their concealed carry permit. Another reason people disagree is because the schools can get a resource officer to protect them. Many schools do not have the budget to get a resource officer though, and to get a concealed carry it requires no money from the school, making concealed carry the betters option. Families all over, especially those with children, need to support the idea of concealed carry in our public schools.
