A climate change producing a record-breaking heat wave, low rain volume and reduced snowfall throughout California has severely caused a drought in California. The drought is here to stay as the population grows in California in the future, we have no choice but to adapt to the changes and decrease our reliance on water. One way to lessen the impact of the drought and water shortage is to conserve or limit water use. Another way is the use of desalination as a solution of the drought relief in California. And the last one is educating people about the drought in California and its effects on our environment. All of these steps are good ways in fighting the drought in California to save water.

On April 1st, 2105, Gov. Jerry Brown ordered the first ever mandatory water restrictions in California. Desalination removes salt from salt water making it as pure as fresh water. This process begins by removing water from the ocean, It is then put through a filter that removes large objects. Then the water passes through another set of filters that removes smaller objects. Salt water is desalinated to produce fresh water suitable for human consumption and irrigation. Even though desalination requires a lot of energy, it can be a short term answer to water shortages. Desalinization is a good way to produce fresh water because salt water is plentiful. Desalination is invaluable for agricultural needs and drinking needs with the drought in
