Catfishing is a world wide issue directed to kids and occasionally to the elderly. It’s when children or adults are persuaded to meet with someone or do something after the person has made a relationship with them online, they may say it will get them rich or even make them give up personal information, this is a serious federal offence, the punishment is decided by the federal court depending on the scale of the offence. Children are the main victims, but are they aware of what’s going on? no. Are they aware of the dangers? possibly but obviously not enough with 39% of kids still being catfished? Teachers need to drill this into kids to stop them from giving away their personal information.

Children are often victims of cat fishing giving up personal information to strangers who aren’t who they say they are, yet are too afraid to tell anyone about it! Parents

Because kids these days are spending so much time in front of the computer and phones at such a young age, they must know the dangers that lye on the internet. If they were taught this at a young age they might be more cautious on the internet. According to surveys carried out through the capital cities of Australia only 29% of children knew what cat fishing was, this is saying that only that 29% where educated about cat fishing at school and understood it. Whilst the other 71% are vulnerable to being a victim to catfishing.

Kids are not educated enough about this issue, yes they do talk about it at school but for a few weeks until the subject is finished but then isn’t talked about for another year, or even never again. If teachers drilled this into kids they might understand more and be more aware if a catfish ever did approach them. If they were more aware of this they could educate there peers about catfishing.
