Ever since beauty pageants have gained traction throughout the nation they have created a large controversy within the parenting community. Shows like TLC’S Toddlers & Tiaras, which focuses on the glamorous life of competitiveness between little girls on who will take the highest title and biggest crown. Shows like these depict the reality of beauty pageants which have created a large controversy on whether if we should allow our children to participate in beauty pageants.Overall beauty pageants cause more harm than benefit to children who participate in them. An article titled “The Benefits of Participating in pageants” written by Chantelle Wright. She states that girls join beauty pageants because they want to overcome shyness, display their talent, gain life skills, to wear the clothes and to reach for excellence. She says that the children are the ones who tell their parents if they could join rather than their parents forcing them to join. Not all of the children are being forced to join pageants some actually enjoy the time they spent competing and making friends. She also states that many parents encourage their children to do beauty pageants in order for them to be more outgoing. Also because of the scholarships some of the pageants can offer. Wright uses her own experience to clarify some of her points, she claims that after participating in beauty pageants she became more outgoing and confident. She also claims that she made new friends, gained some money for her education and gained new life skills. She states that, “being in pageants has been a time of self-discovery and has helped me in many ways”. She believes that if taken seriously pageants can be used for the outside world whether it is communicating or talking to your
