Distracted driving the number one cause of traffic accidents to this day. Distracted driving is the act of driving while engaged in other activities such as looking after children, texting, talking on the phone or to a passenger, watching videos, eating, rubbernecking or reading. As the years gone by texting and driving has increased from the previous years. Texting and driving has been a problem in the United States and is just continuing to increase the danger of being on the road.

46 states out of 50 have a ban on texting while driving (IIHS). In the state of Ohio drivers under the age of 18 will receive a 60 day license suspension and $150 fine (DGMS Law). For a second offense in the state of ohio for a person under 18 years of age would be a $300 fine and a license suspension until you turn 18 (DGMS Law). Texting while driving has caused many problems and will continue until laws are more enforced.
There are ways that texting and driving can be reduced but it takes determination. There have now been apps made for cellphones that won't allow you to get text notifications when exceeding a specific speed (Lalley). Schools hold safe driving assemblies for teen drivers to educate them on the dangers of texting and driving (Niselbaum). Sending you last texts before going on the road can help reduce texting while driving (Soltan). Texting and driving needs to be banned in all states and be enforced more.
