he use of embryos to produce stem cells is a very controversial topic in science today; probably one of the most controversial topic in the world. There are many arguments for both sides for many years, and the argument that is best is to not allow stem cells to be taken from embryonic cells. This is because embryonic cells are humans and as humans they have rights like all humans, Embryonic cells are not the only way of obtaining stem cells, and scientists should not be allowed to “play God” and choose who has the right to live or who has the right to die. When an embryo is created, it becomes a living organism. It is not only a living organism it is a living human. Taking a quote from Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, That among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness…”, we learn that any man has the right to …show more content…
And if this was the only way to get stem cells it might be acceptable to do, but embryonic cells are not the only solution so it is not good to sacrifice embryonic cells for the research. Stem cells can be found in abundance in umbilical cords. “Stem cells recovered postnatally from the umbilical cord, including the umbilical cord blood cells, amnion/placenta, umbilical cord vein, or umbilical cord matrix cells, are a readily available and inexpensive source of cells that are capable of forming many different cell types…” Umbilical cords are a rich source for stem cells and a very good replacement for the use of embryos. They supply just as much and do the have the same amount of medicinal advantages as any other stem cells. Since stem cells can be found in other places, we should not sacrifice embryos to obtain
