Why do we categorize certain animals into different food groups- to eat or not to eat? As human beings, we find it socially acceptable to categorize with the help of our “cute” response to determine which animal should be sent to the slaughter house or sent into our house. The issue at hand is the treatment of livestock in large, unnatural environment for human consumption. Factory farming is an industrial method of raising livestock for human consumption, which provides a surplus of available resources for consumers that will have a long shelf life. Genetically modifications are a scientific advancement in the food industry that allow for those demands to be met. Genetically modified foods expand our palette with various nutritional food options. Some have been engineered to consist more vitamin or mineral content making it more beneficial to consumers. Additionally, meeting those demands means putting every effort to expand the market. Overcrowding of large sum of animals into small, tight environments has been observed in various factory farms throughout the country in the effort to meet the large consumption rates. This is a controversy topic for the treatment of animals, who can be found in confined space, unable to move toward food or water. Within this environment, diseases can spread to a large portion of the population and can even harm consumers.
