Felons voting Everyone has the god given right to vote once one turns eighteen, that is if you are not convicted of a felony. Felons being able to vote is a very controversial topic in out contry. If this issue is not solved or figured out it could cause conflict within our society. There are 5.85 million people with a felony as of 2010 and that number is only continuing to grow. With that being said, we need to figured out a solution to this issue. Whether it be allowing them to vote or to not. Should a we trust a felons judgement? Ex convicts are allowed to do everything that a non convict person can do such as marrying, buy alcohol, and own property. One thing ex felons are not allowed to do it to vote. Children cannot vote until the age eighteen because that is when you are considered an adult and are mature enough to make conscious decisions. The mentally incapable are not able to vote because we don’t trust their judgement. Some rights get taken away when one is convicted of a felony, those being the right to legally own a gun and being able to vote. The right of owning a gun is taken away because we want to protect and make sure everyone is safe. We also want to make sure that the owner of the gun is mentally stable and can make conscious decisions for the good of the whole. People who are sex offenders are not allowed within a certain distance to schools as a precaution. The same goes for letting felons vote we want to make sure that they do not make rational decisions like they could of possibly done in the past, which landed them the felony. These felon restrictions on voting are just like the other voting restrictiions like having to be eighteen, residency, and sanity.
