As November comes along and the presidential elections begin, political cartoons on the candidates come into play. While there are numerous issues currently being spoken about in the media, there is only one issue that I feel is most spoken about, that should be left alone. That issue is Mexican immigration. One of our presidential candidates Donald Trump is a massive supporter of sending back any immigrants, particularly Mexicans, to their birthplaces. I believe that Donald Trump is a huge racist who feels that his opinions are best. Darkows image makes it known that Trump is a monster, Frankenstein, who believes that Mexicans are rapists, drug dealers, and criminals. While we Americans know that this is not always true, as any race can be any one of these things, Trump believes they are the problem. When I analyzed this cartoon, I thought about why Donald Trump was portrayed as Frankenstein instead of himself. From my understanding, Frankenstein is a hideous, but intelligent monster who was created by a scientist. Frankenstein is scary looking causing people to run away from him. I believe that Darkow purposely drew Trump like Frankenstein to symbolize that only a monster or a horrible person would believe that innocent people who fled their hard lives should go back. John Darkows cartoon clearly uses Ethos as an appeal. Darkows takes a successful businessman, like Donald Trump, and turns him into a monster. While Donald Trump is quite smart, in this cartoon Donald Trump is shown as an unintelligent being because of the comments he makes about Mexican immigrants. Like Frankenstein, Donald Trump did not create himself.
