This I Believe Essay I believe that if your country calls to you to serve in either the military or for jury duty that you go and serve as asked. The reason why I believe what I say is that this great country the USA has done so much for you, and in return you do what the country asks. In the 1960-70s while the Vietnam War was unfolding, people would pay off the government to evade the draft or even submit leading to federal charges. The draft got it’s true name when it was put in place by the U.S. Government in the 1940s at the beginning of WWII to fill the vacancies in the Armed Forces with able bodied men and women that would serve and/or fight. When people evaded the draft they were considered criminals but the people that opposed the war would stand up for those who evaded including many celebrities for example, Muhammad Ali, Mitt Romney & John Wayne. The most famous story of Draft Evasion was Muhammad Ali and his journey to not be sent to Vietnam to stop the communist vietcong from taking over the North’s neighbor, South Vietnam. Jury Duty throughout the U.S. has benefits that are incentives to go and do Jury Duty for example: $15 a day, discounts to restaurants and surrounding stores, and sometimes room and board for longer trials. For those who ignore to attend to Jury Duty are punished by either $2000 fine and three days in jail for failing to attend a federal calling. This is why I believe that serving your country when called is important because otherwise if we all don’t do our part, we all fall together as a country.
