All people are essentially the same; if one of them makes a mistake, no one automatically assumes that every other person in the world will make that same fault as well. So why is it fair that the Pit Bull gets judged in this way? Dogs are known for being “man’s best friend”, one of the most complaisant and affectionate companions one could ask for. The Pit Bull Terrier is just another breed of dog, not some kind of heartless, bloodthirsty monster. Pit Bulls used to be looked at as the ideal family dog; obedient, loving, and protective over its family and friends. However, they began to get taken advantage of for their extraordinary vigor, and began to get ruthlessly thrown into dogfighting rings. The results of these dog fights were extremely detrimental to the poor Pit’s image, portraying a frightening, cold-blooded killer. What people need to understand is that bad behavior is not the Pit Bull’s fault; they can be just as amiable as any other breed of dog, it just all depends on how they are raised. The American Pit Bull Terrier was once a beloved dog, and is now looked at with fear, and disgust. What people need to realize is the Pit Bull itself has not changed, the way it is perceived has. Faulty statistics due to incorrect profiling causes the Pit Bull to be looked at as a monster, which leads to lack of love and proper care, because people become afraid. Unconsented participation in traumatizing dog fights, and constant abuse leads to aggressive tendencies, causing even more fear against the breed. Incorrect obedience training can also lead to aggressive actions, not just for Pits but for any breed of dog. In conclusion, with the right love, care, and persistent guidance, Pit Bulls have the ability to be just as loving and sweet as any dog, because that is just what they are, a type of dog - just another one of man’s best
