The United States is known as the land of opportunities and home of freedom too many people in the world. But there are many problems in the country like in many others. One of the significant issues in the United States for a long time and to this day is poverty. Based on the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2015 estimates, the official poverty rate in America is 13.5 percent. Although this percentage may not seem significant, the United States Census Commission, estimated that 43.1 million Americans lived in poverty in 2016. The people who live under the poverty line are all unemployed, homeless, uneducated and the majority are drug users and alcoholics. By getting rid of debt, less American dollars will be wasted on the poor because there will be no people under the poverty line. The cost to eliminate poverty is 175.3 million dollars, according to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2012. If Americans give millions of dollars to help end poverty, it will bring us into debt as well. America should not have to pay for people who do not deserve it and will help to make a difference by improving the nation. Instead of giving our dollars to the poor, we could be putting the millions of dollars into programs like education and the military. When Americans pay taxes, about 9 percent of the federal budget, supports programs that give aid to the poor. By getting rid of poverty, Americans will have to spend less money on taxes. Another solution could be spending money to get rid of the debt, but it's too expensive. Americans are known not to pay more taxes than they need to, like the Stamp Act of 1765 has modeled in the past. People in America, don't want to spend lots money on poor people. Why spend millions of dollars on the poor, when you can just keep it your hard-earned money for yourself? Americans should not have to pay money for the poor when it can be spent on things that they truly desire, like dream cars and homes.
