Americans spend more on prescription drugs than any other country in the world. In fact, America beats Canada, the second highest spender, by forty percent and other developed countries such as France and Germany by more than fifty percent. Along with Americans being spending the most on prescriptions, the countries citizens are prescribed more medications. One in five Americans fail to fill prescriptions due to the high costs which is fifty percent more than Germany which takes second place at one in ten. While almost every American finds the cost of prescriptions demanding, the most common prescriptions are for citizens who suffer from psychosis, dementia, rheumatoid arthritis, and respiratory diseases. It is logical that many seniors approve of the discontinuance of Medicare’s ability to argue prices because they now have coverage but it must be considered that seniors are only one portion of the population. Both democratic possible nominees approve of this idea for lowering prescription costs (NCPSSM). While overall it sounds like a good idea, the fact the ability has already been revoked only ten years ago proves it is unlikely those powers will soon be reinstated. Importing drugs is something that happens daily illegally, and something that is unlikely to be approved by congress. Americans are very proud people and when it comes to many things, they will prefer drugs sold in America over imported, for some no matter the price difference.
