Texting and driving has become a huge issue in today's society. Every year people are introduced to new and inexperienced teenage drivers who are behind the wheel by themselves. Many people don’t understand how difficult it is trying to drive while not looking at the road. People think they can safely type on their phone while driving, or they think there isn’t any real danger while doing it. Some feel that creating a law against cell phone use breaches rights. Others think that banning someone from using their cell phone is just like telling someone that they can't talk to someone in their car. Currently, there is no national ban on texting or using a wireless phone while driving, but a number of states have passed laws banning texting or wireless phones or requiring the hands-free use of wireless phones while driving. 38 states ban all cell phone use by a novice driver, 46 states ban people from texting and driving. 14 states prohibit all drivers from using hand-held cell phones while driving. The fines they have for these laws are kinda pathetic in some states. For example, in the state of California is 20 dollars for a first offense, and they have the most people in the U.S., but have the lowest price in the U.S. Charging 20 dollars just won’t phase most people there needs to be a higher fine. The second thing I think they need to change is the age restriction. No one should be able to text and drive. In our state of Missouri if you are 21 you are able to text and drive. For states with primary laws, there is only a three percent decrease in distracted driving incidents. People need to fear the repercussions of their actions. Although there are punishments for texting while driving. Including fines or points against your driver's license in states that use a point systems. If every state had a primary enforcement on texting and driving, it would teach drivers that for being on your phone you can get in
