In today’s society there are multiple factors in smoking tobacco that can slowly deteriorate people’s health long term, even leading to death in some cases. The use of tobacco has been a big controversy which people have gone back and forth on for years. Tobacco contains thousands of chemicals, some of which are known to cause cancer. “More than 4,000 toxic or carcinogenic chemicals have been found in tobacco smoke” (3). All of these toxins are chemicals that are not supposed to be in our bodies and just harm users in the long run by continuing to contaminate their bodies with so many chemicals. “Smoking shortens male smokers’ lives by about 12 years and female smokers’ lives by about 11 years” (2). The consumption of tobacco isn’t going to harm users immediately. Tobacco becomes addictive to users and begins to show its negative effects slowly over time, even affecting a person’s lifetime. The death rate of Americans who consume tobacco is at a high of 440,000 deaths per year, or nearly 1 of every 5 deaths according to C.D.C. Hence, the consumption of tobacco or cigars is a phenomenon that bring people to debate whether it should be prohibited or not due to the many unwholesome health factors it demonstrates in consumers. …show more content…
