Why School Should Start Early

Everyday students go to school tired by the end of the day. So why prolong the day when students are already tired by two and three o’clock in the evening. If school were to start later, many parents and children would be in a bind. This is only one of the few reasons as to why school start early. School starting early can help students by providing students with more time for extracurricular activities, keeping students more calm and focused, and allowing parents time to go in to work early.
Majority of the school population participates in extracurricular activities and or after school jobs. A 2001 study showed that school administrators cited extracurricular activities as a major reason why high school campuses would rather start earlier …show more content…
Many parents have to go to work early in the morning. It is not ideal to leave children at home unattended. When students ride the bus, they often times leave home around six and seven. This helps many parents get to work on time without worrying about their child(ren) being home alone. When the children leave school, are often dropped off at after school programs such as The Boys and Girls Club. Clubs such as these start at three when the children are expected to be out of school and they stay open til six. These times are convenient because they reflect the times parents get off of work. There are specific advantages for parents if younger grades have early start times. Starting school early may eliminate the need for morning childcare if parents are able to drop off their kids before work. They may drop them off at a center that buses them to their campus later in the morning. After school, the daycare picks up the students and parents retrieve their children in the evening from the center. This is necessary for some parents to have time to travel to work, especially if they have a longer
