Women have been serving in the U.S. Military for hundreds of years but when the U.S. Government tries to further break the carrier barrier for women by allowing them to be Marine Corps infantry officers, America has a long debate over the issue. Although I always hope for gender equality, I have to say that women should not be Marine Corps infantry officers and the government should not be able to draft women for the Marine Corps infantry, in the event of an emergency.
The physical differences between men and women are not likely to be compensated by harsh training or determination. Even though people may argue that some women are physically capable of being a Marine Corps infantry officer, few women may actually succeed. Men are physically stronger than women. Whether someone wants to do something or not can make a big difference of the result. Those who voluntarily sign up to be infantry officers must be eager to fight for their countries and they are more mentally readied and courageous to overcome the various physical and psychological ordeals as a soldier. Although they can hardly succeed, they are more determined to fight, and therefore want to do better and may sustain longer in the battle. On the contrary, a great proportion of the drafted women are unwilling to fight but are forced to. During their training and combat, all they can think of is to go home. They are in a huge panic when they have to fight and will rather escape than attack. Being a coward soldier do not make a good soldier, especially when she is not even physically strong enough to defend. These drafted women will turn out to be a drag on the strong and important Military Corps
