Year round school has been a debate in our country for a long time. Many school systems fear transitioning to year round school because of the feedback they may receive from students, parents, and teachers. Year round school however, is the new reality and should be the new “norm” in our country. While looking at the background, the different track systems, the improvements and even the setback that year round education could have on a school system, you will find that year round education should be our countries new “traditional school.” In the mid 1800’s schools were structured and based around the agriculture needs. However, if this is the only reason a school system is thinking about switching they should rethink their reasoning. Rising test scores are a benefit from year round school. In fact, there is a lot of research that is going in to finding out why test scores are on the rise when it comes to year round school. An example would be, how underprivileged children are affected. There are many children that are unprivileged that are going to schools that may not be the best school or a top rated school. However, at least when they are attending school they are learning. During the summer though, their home life may be even worse then what they are experiencing at school, which is going to cause a greater loss of knowledge. This happens because parents aren’t helping enforce what the child may have been taught or learned in school. Studies are showing however that it is not the time you are in school, for example 180 days. It is the continuous amount of time that children are in school. Which is why some administrations are pushing for year round school because yes, the children would be getting breaks but they
