As an American it is our right to bear arms in this country. I come before you today as a fellow American asking that you consider fighting to keep this constitutional right alive. My hope is to persuade you to consider our second amendment for moment, as a protection for your family and for those things that you have worked hard for throughout your life; things we all value and cherish. It’s not say that guns do not cause death, as I would be lying to you. According to one study, there have been 50,954 deaths caused by firearms in the United States this year. Of those, 12,730 were murder/suicide, 26,181 were gun-related injuries, 252 were officers killed in-the-line of duty and 1,705 were reported as police related shootings.
Armed with the information, it is my belief is that firearms don’t kill people, people use guns to kill each other. It is also my belief that firearms should be used only for self-defense and by law enforcement to protect communities in

One possibility would be to institute better policies and/or mandate public firearm safety and training for the who choose to possess firearms. One key point is that those who have gun safety training are in more control during altercations versus those that possess little or no training at all. In this case, by allowing only law-abiding citizens access and cracking down on private gun sales; which contribute to criminals obtaining guns. As an example, I received my first gun permit in Ohio; in which I had to complete a gun safety course and qualify on proper handling of a firearm. Now upon transferring to Georgia, there was no qualifying training or gun safety course necessary. All I needed to do was go to my local county sheriff's office, complete paperwork, make a payment for the permit, and within 6 to 8 weeks I received my permit. Based on this current process, it seems to me that anyone is able to exercise their right to bear arms, but without proper
