Good morning fellow classmates, I am here today to bring awareness to such an important topic. That topic is post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Post traumatic stress disorder is not commonly heard in today’s society but affects most of the population. Actually rates of PTSD have gone up since the tragic event of 911. Once America declared war on Iraq, cases of PTSD skyrocketed. According to Hoge and colleagues about “12 to 13 percent of the Marines and soldiers who have returned from active duty have screened positive[ for PTSD].” PTSD is drevived from an axiety disorder. What makes this disorder different is the fact that a tramatic experience unrolls this disorder in people. At first I thought PTSD only occurs on military grounds but I was wrong in fact military grounds only make up 30% of the PTSD diagnosis. Child abuse, rape, neglect,emotional abuse, and sex trafficing are just a few of the causes of PTSD. Policemen, firemen, doctors and even nurses all can and some have suffered from this disorder. Sadly, it’s been debated whether PTSD is an actual disorder or if it’s just made up. You see people just categorize mental disorders and prescribe medication thinking it will solve the problem. In reality it doesn't solve the problems just suppresses them. By suppressing the memories it allows the person to go on with their lives as if nothing happened but once the medication wears off; reality sets in. PTSD can prevent people from living a mormal life. Often they cannot maintain a stable job and it can affect how they socialize overall.Many veterans suffer PTSD which doesn't allow them to have a stable job and usually they end up on the street . Homeless rates for veterans continue to rise and these are the people we should be caring for especially since they served our
