In Peter H. Gibbon’s “The End of Admiration: The Media and the Loss of Heroes.” he claims that media badly influences society’s view. He focuses mainly on how the media uses untrue and abstract information to persuade the readers to believe whatever the news is telling them. He also demonstrates the influence that actors and musicians have, stating that most people nowadays do not take interest in what a true hero really is; they instead only care about who is on the news. I agree with Gibbon’s view because as generations have evolved they are not gaining knowledge, instead they are losing it. He states that as the years go by our children are having “ shorter attention spans and smaller vocabularies”. He blames this on parents who instead of reading to their children rather spend time looking at a computer screen. He states “there used to be three channels. Now, there are over one hundred.” proving that currently there are more channels because more and more people are watching television rather than spend time with friends or loved ones.
In addition to Gibbon’s other arguments, he also indicates that many journalist are writing fabricated stories in order to help them make more money. Our culture nowadays only wants to focus on the bad and read stories that seem interesting. This is why most of the shows viewed on television are reality shows which have also been said to be not real.
I agree with Gibbons points stated because as the generations are evolving and views are changing this affects people's priorities. That is why we see a lot of the younger generations not taking part in the future. For example voting, since a majority of the younger generation's concern is revolving around the latest reality star they are lacking in what is happening in politics and in the world around them and decisions that play key roles in the
