Introduction
In 2001, BFI Canada Inc. acquired BFI U.S. Inc., which marked the origin of North America’s third largest waste management organization, rebranded under the name “Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd.” (PWS). Progressive Waste Solutions and its team of 7,500 employees conduct its operations out of Canada, the southern and north-eastern United States. The firm actively positions itself in various communities throughout these regions and works with TerraCycle to improve existing programs for the extraction of recyclable items from general waste that is destined for landfills. The addition of TerraCycle has perfectly demonstrated PWS’ current mission of “truly being an innovative leader in the communities [they] serve” (PWS, 2014).
