At age seventeen, I processed my immigration papers to begin a new life in the United States. At that time, I was aware that anytime anyone moves far away from the people he has known since birth to new surroundings and new ways of doing ordinary things, change should be expected. Although I fully anticipated there would be changes following my recent decision to leave my home in the Philippines where I was born and raised, anticipation alone could not prepare me for everything I was about to experience. A big change that I have faced living in a new country is the transition to using English as my primary language whereas I was using Cebuano and Tagalog living in the Philippines. This has forced me to learn new words and new expressions
