Phineas Gage otherwise known as the American Crowbar Case was a 25 year old man that originated from Grafton County, New Hampshire. He worked for Rutland & Burlington Railroad located in Cavendish, Vermont as a railway worker. On September 13, 1848 Gage was working with gunpowder when there was a freak accident and the powder ignited forcing a three-foot iron rod up through his cheek and out through the left front lobe of his brain exiting the top of his head. The doctor that treated him was Dr. John Martyn Harlow an American physician who claimed that Gage bore his injury with the most heroic firmness. When first meeting Dr. Harlow he was alert but he became exhausted due to the hemorrhage. Amazingly Gage was not killed from the impact and
