Define a problem that relates to your individual situation. This can be a problem that is applicable to home or work (you can make one up). Write a 300-350 word referenced essay that demonstrates how the scientific method might be used to solve the problem.
Problem : The Nurse Anesthesia (CRNA)program at Midwestern University requires applicants to have an overall grade point average (GPA) and my science grade point average (SGPA) of 3.0 or greater. The CRNA program at the University of Arizona requires applicants to have a 3.0 overall GPA. My GPA is a 2.92 with 141 credits completed and my SGPA is a 2.64 with 32 credits completed. I will need to improve my GPA and SGPA in order to meet the requirements of the CRNA programs at Midwestern University or the University of Arizona. I can determine how many credits I will need to complete in order to raise my GPA and SGPA to a 3.0 or greater using the scientific method.
Hypothesis: If I take 12 credits worth of science courses and maintain a 4.0 GPA in these courses I will raise my overall GPA and SGPA to 3.0 or greater.
Data: To determine how much 12 credits with a 4.0 GPA will affect my overall cumulative GPA I will multiply the 12 credits by the 4.0 GPA to get 1 48 quality points (QP), 141 credits at a 2.92 GPA equals 411.72 QP. 411.72 QP + 48 QP=459.72 QP. 459.72 QP/153 credits (the 141 credits I currently have + the 12 I have hypothesized taking) = 3.0 GPA.
To determine how much the 12 science credits will affect my SGPA I will multiply the 32 credits that are being used to calculate my SGPA and multiply it by my SGPA (32x2.64) to give me 84.48 QP. If I then add to that the 48 QP I have hypothesized earning I will have 132.48 QP. If I take the QP and divide it by the total number of science credits being used to calculate my SGPA (the 132 science credits I currently have + the 12 I have hypothesized taking) 132.48/44=3.01 SGPA.
Conclusion: Taking 12 credits in science courses and maintaining a 4.0 GPA will increase both my GPA
