In reflection over my previous and current endeavors, I find that three main devotions remain constant influences for my initiative. My lifelong devotions to community, growth, and greatest of all service have cumulated to a passion for providing quality health care. I believe a career as a physician assistant will allow me to support my rural community’s health care needs. I also believe a career as a physician assistant will allow me to grow from daily challenges and will allow me to be an ally for those facing disparities in our health care system. Throughout my life, I have watched my local physician assistant and close family friend provide excellent primary care while leading our community as an example of an altruistic caretaker of the less fortunate. Her actions and the actions of my grandparents who have dedicated their lives to improving our community have inspired me to pursue a career as a physician assistant so that I too can spend my life as a servant leader. …show more content…
As a native of a medically underserved community, I have seen the negative effects of low access to health care first-hand. Through primary and secondary school, my classmates often missed months of school because their families could not afford to travel for primary care. Shadowing primary care providers in the area enlightened me to how much of my community suffers from preventable diseases because they can only attend one primary care appointment annually. Fulfilling my dream to become a physician assistant would allow me to provide access to care for the hundreds of desperate members of my community. As a physician assistant, I could positively impact multiple generations in my community through the establishment of trusting and lifelong relationships and non-discriminatory
