Personal Statement
Diversity Is?

For me, a member of three (3) federally protected physiognomies i.e. race, gender and age; will forever be challenging for some. One chose Organizational Leadership, primarily for the opportunity the terminal degree affords to make a veritable difference in our society. The word diversity is welcoming inclusion for all in a society, regardless human physiognomies and entirely void of marginalization. For example, in 2001 while interviewing for the position of Database Manager, the Executive Director asked me how one felt about homosexuality? While performing the duties of treasury analyst in 2008, a sales officer, not making his promised sales goal the term ‘thrown under the bus’ took on a new meaning. Suggested one to be the lowest of the low, bottom of the organizational chart. Questioned how someone as trivial as oneself would have the power/authority to hold up his product implementations, and that’s the reason why he did not achieve his goal. The disapproving descriptors created the slippery slope of verbal harassment. However, it just so happened one had left early and missed the scheduled southern regional conference / video call. The southern region comprises seven (7) states, received many calls from other employees that were glad to inform me of what transpired. The older Caucasian male who just happened to be longtime acquaintance of the Regional President (RP). The RP had the nerve to say, “he does not lie, so I believe him when he says he did not mean to make those remarks”. The RP went on to explain his colleague had the potential to solicit highly profitable commercial business clients, and under those circumstances. Therefore, the transgressions while very inappropriate just warranted, an apologize. Thus, reentering college in the Summer of 2012; it helped tremendously being the recipient of a three-thousand dollars ($3,000.00) scholarship that the AARP Women’s Foundation provided. Therefore, finishing undergraduate degree concentration Information Technology November 2014; starting master’s degree in July 2015 with completion November 2017, GPA 3.75 and 3.45 respectively. Moreover, winning the AARP scholarship required an assigned AARP mentor- her name Ann Strauss, and we are close friends. If not for Ann’s undying support these past five (5) years, for example, death of husband in 2013, eldest daughter psychological breakdown six (6) months later, her believeth in me, always inspiring me to do better; one would not have made it. Ann, is the finest, most inspiring women one has ever known. Ann’s perspective on life, diversity and inclusion, has revealed Ann fundamentally believes in diversity for all. As a result, provides a constant reminder, of how all should to behave towards each other. Along these lines diversity in the workforce should only concentrate on skills, talents and abilities that when evaluated fairly are void of discrimination and promotes diversity; not focusing on bias driven human
