Robert Bresson’s Pickpocket is a very concise movie in term of diologe and music. However, Bresson’s distinctive style of camera use and story telling makes this movie very interesting and meaningful. The theme of this movie is individuality and its’ conflict with society.
This movie is similar to the M that we watched in class. In both of this movies, the mental states of criminals are revealed so that audience can think in a deeper sense into the theme. However, in this movie, the sensitive personality of Michel is established in the beginning of this movie as oppose to the end of the movie like M does. In the movie, Michel is obsessed with the art of stealing itself, and he also believes stealing as a mean to resolve social injustice. As
