All can agree there is no stopping it but there can be more preventive strategies. On the contrary, Writing and Rhetoric Professor Rebecca Moore Howard of Syracuse University suggests teachers should educate students about plagiarism and engage more in leaning. Plagiarism is sabotaging the learning process and the best way to approach this issue is teachers putting forth extra effort to educate students. One way Educators can prevent plagiarism is teaching students higher level thinking. Students should learn more than just “how” to write a paper but “why” to write one. According to Professor Howard in her article for The CQ Researcher, “teaching, not software, is the key to preventing plagiarism.” She claims that the problem is teachers don’t warn students about plagiarism. Instead, the mere threat of digital software is a preferred route Educators take. Teachers’ responses must be more complex and they should have more analysis an insight.
