One of the major issues that Planned Parenthood focuses on in all locations is reproductive rights. This is a feminist issue because women should have the right not only to make the decisions regarding their bodies, but also should have access to any reproductive care they may potentially need. Throughout feminist history, reproductive rights have always been a controversial discussion. In “Feminisms Matter”, Bromley States “Without reproductive freedom, including the right to accessible, safe, legal abortion, women will never achieve equality to men” (Feminisms Matter, 2012). Planned Parenthood takes many steps in the right direction to empower all women and work for equality between men and women alike by providing services for both men and women at several facilities, providing abortions regardless of societies backlash to their decisions, giving young teen girls access to all the necessities to remain in good sexual health and using an intersection approach while providing all services. Planned Parenthood certainly can fall under the category of the broader women’s movement because like the women’s movement, they advocate for anybody in need of an extra voice and reproductive rights for women which are aspects that we have seen in various women’s movements across the three waves of feminism. This organization does not only deal with oppressions that directly affect them. Planned Parenthood has declared solidarity with many other groups and on December 5th, 2015, they organized an event titled “Day of Solidarity” where they stood with all people who have dealt with the horrors of domestic violence, people affected by school shootings, the LGBTQ community, and victims of bullying. On a regular basis, Planned Parenthood has advocated for the Transgender communities and have provided a safety net for or simply a place for comfort.
