The article selected for this application of theory assignment is entitled “Planned parenthood Faces Funding Battle in the States: Oct.19,2015” and was featured in U.S. News. The central theme of the article explores the current issue being put forth by mainstream conservative political activists that seek to limit the “power” of Planned Parenthood organizations by drastically undercutting the organizations funding at a national level. The article was released subsequently after the State of Texas recently passed state legislation attempting to ban Medicare funds that have been used to supplement the lack of national funding received by Planned Parenthood. What is essentially conceptualized by the idea of the male patriarchy is that most if not all social institutions have in inherent hierarchy were males are placed at the top of the power structure where they then can exert their power over women who are placed at the bottom and expected to be submissive to the will of their superiors. Though some may phrase it different a more simplistic frame work to understand the patriarchy may simply be to say all social institutions place the needs of men over the needs of women often leading to an unequal distribution of power and resources. In this respect the issue regarding Planned Parenthood funding is subversively reaffirming this theory in a broader political context. For example, the fact that democratic representation of women within the house of representatives and senate, if in fact disturbed equally should reflect at least half its members to be female. However, in both chambers of congress women account for around 1/5th of representatives in both the house and senate. Not only is this a literal manifestation of the “patriarchy” but it also reflects how those in control have the power to dictate social in political discourse in both public and private spheres. It is with that in mind that another tenement of radical feminism comes in to play and that is how the only way to correct such a patriarchal society is to tear it down and start from scratch.
