Connections to Ethical Practices It was interesting to see if play based learning would fit into the NAEYC ideals and principles. I was shocked to see that there were not as many ideals of principles directly related to play, however some of the ideals and principles would be worked into a play based learning environment.
• Core Values: “Appreciate childhood as a unique and valuable stage of the human life cycles” and “Base our work on knowledge of how children develop and learn” (Feeney, Freeman and Pizzilongo, 2012, xvi) are two core values that can be directly related to play based learning. As teachers it is important to note that childhood is an important stage in a child’s life because so much basic knowledge is being developed during this time. Much of the knowledge comes from the ability to explore and play in order to learn. Also as teachers, it is important for us to stay up to date on the most recent studies. When using play based learning in a childcare program of classroom it is important to have a variety of objects, toys and play structures.
