In the beginning of the event, the male adults had to sign the Mayflower Compact. This document was signed by 41 male English colonist. These men signed to keep the government under control and to have a system that protected the community. Along the men that worked to keep the colony a better place was known as Governor Thomas Prence. In the source of the Columbia electronic Encyclopedia, it mentions that Thomas showed that he cared for the colony by saying “…he served with credit through a period of Indian wars and internal religious troubles and was noted for his successful effort to secure public revenues in support of schools.” Before the pilgrims landed in Plymouth colony, many Native Americans lived in the colony.
