Not only is Pocahontas oppressed by the colonizers, but also by her father and other men of her tribe. When Pocahontas asks her father to listen to John Smith about not wanting to harm them, she is considered ignorant and naive and her idea is dismissed immediately. Her idea was the most reasonable about the conflict but because it came from a female, no one even considered it. When Pocahontas’s soon to be husband (who was forced on her by her father), Kocoum suggested attacking the settlers, he jumped on the idea but ignored his own daughter who should have had priority. If Kocoum had asked to listen to the settlers would Powhatan really have overlooked that? Pocahontas’s own father can not put her before non-family males which does not demonstrate
