Mrs. Flowers actions are like a lifeline to the silent child to Marguerite because, she helped her move past her tragic memories. Mrs. Flowers actions made a difference to Marguerite. The author says,”I was liked, and what a difference it made. I was respected not as Mrs. Henderson’s grandchild or Bailey’s sister, but for just being Marguerite Johnson.” (pg.233) Mrs. Flowers also helped her see that that words can make a person feel enchanted.
