They are known to be less likely to abuse their power and beat down a victim. Trying to balance race, gender and policing might be somewhat hard. It is hard to get someone to want to risk their lives for another citizen, but it is so important to increase the rewards for minorities’ and women. More than anything it is the stereotypes that hurt those who want to join the force. By recruiting diverse officers the statics of police brutality would drop tremendously. Women have a different way of thinking and solving their problems in a way that it will not hurt both parties. By nature, women will not use excessive force. In the world people live in today it is common that women get a more laid back office job where their lives are not in danger. …show more content…
Wallace in CNN mentions, that according to the National Center for Women and Policing, “The average male officer is 8 ½ times more likely to have an excessive force compliant against him than a woman.” Now this does not mean that not all women are capable to using less force, but it is more unlikely that they use excessive force or abuse their power. The media has managed to make law enforcement a job where a trigger is pulled every second and one of the most dangerous jobs. Women are just less likely to use their weapons and tend to look for no-physical solutions. The women’s instinct is find a non-violent solution during a confrontation. Hiring more female officers perhaps has not been proven yet, but it has not been practiced in every state either. In the Washington Post, “Why aren’t there more women in policing? Misguided recruiting practices, ongoing discriminatory hiring processes and hostile work places” (Spillar). For example, the show Cops demonstrates excessive force and pure violence. This can only catch the eye of a white male. The only demonstrates that women cannot be as effective as the white male police officers. It rare seeing a case where the victim or criminal gets off easy. Examples like this will only scare away minorities when they see that their own race is being beaten down to the
