David Williamson likes to write his plays using dark humour as he wants to catch the audience attention on a specific issue. One of the issues that are explored in the removalist is police brutality. In the removalist the death of Kenny, Fiona’s husband was caused by the brutal abuse from sergeant Dan Simmonds and Constable Neville Ross and in the presence of the removalist, Fiona and Kate. The presence of the removalist, Kate and Fiona shows an attitude of resigned acceptance towards brutality. This shows the similarity from the removalist to society as we are all bystanders, who watches an incident happened and don’t report it. After the the removalist and the sister leave, Kenny teases ross “do you think that uniform makes you a big man or something? Eh? Christ...... I’ve seen some cowardly fuckwits hiding behind their uniforms in my time but without a doubt you’re at the bottom of the bloody barrel” through the use of rhetorical question the audience starts to question society. Idiom is also used to characteristic the mode of expression in music or art. While the fight is happening, simmonds does nothing to break it up but rather supports it, his first question after ross was ‘Did you let him get away?’.
