Journal Project #1 Contacts between Police and the Public I believe that the information presented within the journal is very vital to the daily operations of police business and work. It is also crucial to point out the highlights of study or survey that way it can be used towards on how to react when certain situations that has to deal with the interactions of the public and local law enforcement. Like the journal discusses about the size of jurisdiction being a factor of police and public contact; I for one feel that the size of any jurisdiction plays a huge part in how interactive the police are with the local community that they are serving because as most know the bigger the jurisdiction the more interaction they will get with the public. For example the journal stated that “residents with central cities reported contacts with police at the rates of about 200 persons with contact per 1,000 residents while residents of non-metropolitan or rural areas reported a 9% higher rate”(bureau of justice statistics, pg.6). Now that data is extremely helpful when running a local police department in the sense that it helps to get an idea of how and what you are dealing with when it comes to the size of an area. …show more content…
I agree with the findings because it is becoming the social norm that individuals 16 years old and older are getting more involved with criminal activity than they were 50 years ago. But what it also points out that race has a huge factor to do with it as well, for the study to say that men were the majority of individuals who were twice as likely to report contact with police than women seems to me kind off due to the fact that I feel women report it just as much as men
