The sources above explain some political tensions in the readings or images. In source A for political reasons it states “Americans by birth and Europeans by law, we find ourselves engaged in a dual conflict”. This piece of evidence shows that the Americans don’t have a choice to be Europeans, so they are forced to be something there not. In Source B it shows political tensions by showing political maps between the 1790s and 1828, by how it has changed over the years. Source C states “ on transatlantic trade would naturally lead us to produce more in America, the government has been careful to place limitations on what we can legally produce…” This shows political tension because the limitation caused the tension. In source E the reading stated “ They treat us as slaves; we cannot speak freely or enjoy the fruits of our soil, for they own everything” This piece of evidence shows social tensions because the Mexican culture is not allowed the freedom to make their own choices and the Spanish are forcing their beliefs onto the Mexicans. Also the image in source D shows that the Mexicans and the Spanish are fighting because it ties along with the Mexicans wanting to “rule out the [spanish]”. Source C also shows social tensions “Americanos, being those who live and work in America logically thought to fill the public offices of their own country but that has been far from the case.” This is a good piece of evidence to prove that source C has a social tension in the reading because it talks about how people before thought that they could transfer their own country into public offices. Also in source B the image shows that in 1790 the Spanish ruled most of the land. And comparing it to the land that the British, Dutch, and French owned, the Spanish had ruled a greater amount of land. Finally in source A it states “ for we, having been placed in a state lower than slavery, had been robbed not only of our freedom but also of the right to fight against an active tyranny.” This shows that the people have been through a really though time and there freedom through that was lost.
