Dick, writer, 2000]” To be an expert at the art of shaping one’s ideology, one might possess the trait of being outspoken. Outspoken people can possess traits of narcissism, eagerness, or manipulativeness. Although, these characteristics may be helpful in most cases, these burdens got Polonius, from William Shakespeare’s, Hamlet, murdered. The persuasive and unfiltered language Polonius used throughout the story was for the sole purpose of manipulation- whether it was for a promotion or to get a job done. This behavior mixed with his eagerness and narcissistic behavior caused Polonius’ demise.

Although, his actions may have seemed self-justified, it doesn’t mean it was the most useful. In fact, it might’ve even worsened the situation and caused the death of one he loved the most- Ophelia. Ophelia had many confrontations with Hamlet along with an internal battle on whether Hamlet was in love with her or not. First, Polonius told her that her display of affection was all in vain and Hamlet never loved her. Afterwards, he suggested that not talking to Hamlet could help, but Hamlet only pestered Ophelia more. Polonius, confident in the source of Hamlet’s unusual shift in behavior, saw it necessary to alert the King and Queen of their son’s antics. “Come, go with me. I will go seek the King. This is the very ecstasy of love, whose violent property fordoes itself and leads the will to the desperate undertakings as oft as any passions under heaven that does afflict our natures.
