Ponyboy and Johnny were at a park and a blue mustang started circling them and they found out they were Socs circling them. When the Socs got out of the car Bob the leader told David one of the five Socs involved to go give Ponyboy a bath in the fountain. As David did that Ponyboy was drowning and Johnny stabbed Bob, and when he did that all the other Socs left. As a result, we are here in this case. Johnny is justified in what he did and is not guilty because he and Ponyboy tried to run away but it was too late, also Johnny wanted to protect ponyboy because he wasn’t sure if the socs would drown Ponyboy, and he also used his knife as protection. This evidence shows that the Socs were indeed drowning Pony and Johnny was just trying to protect him from them. The reason that Johnny was trying to protect Pony is proof that Johnny is not guilty. Another reason why Johnny is not guilty of murder is because he used his switchblade as self-defense against the Socs. Also, Johnny states that ‘“they had a blade… they were gonna beat me up”’ (57). The evidence shows that Johnny had to us his switchblade because the Socs had a blade to and they were going to use it on him. Johnny using his knife as the self-defense shows that he was protecting himself, therefore, he is not guilty. One last reason why Johnny is not guilty is that he and Ponyboy were going to run away but it was too late. The text shows Ponyboy and Johnny saying to each other ‘“want to run for it? it’s too late now, Johnny said”’(54). In conclusion, the evidence shows that Ponyboy and Johnny were trying to leave and avoid all the trouble but it was too late. Ponyboy and Johnny trying to run away shows that the Socs were the ones looking for trouble.
