There has a been a shift long-awaited by body-positivity activists on the major pop culture symbol, Barbie. Mattel, the creator of Barbie, a common icon of unrealistic beauty standards, has launched three new body types in order to better represent the features of modern women. These new figures are petite, tall, and curvy, and they make consumers “more likely to buy Barbie,” according to focus groups. Mattel has put these amendments in place to make up for loss of sales as well as to reflect the changes in women’s builds. Barbie has undergone changes, but there is still a long way to go for society to accept different body shapes.
