I like many others, have become intrigued by our newest pope. I found a few articles online that I have found very interesting. This is the first time that I have actually cared or even read about the pope. As I was reading these articles there were little bits that I had to look up because I had no idea what they were or what they meant. Unfortunately, I resorted to reading the wiki website. I could understand what they were talking about on that website, verses other “official” sites that made no sense to me. This weekend I went to the library with my kids and even picked up a book about the Vatican and the history of all the popes. I’m excited to read it and find out about the different

He is a man of his people and does not see himself above them but as equal to them. So many enter into a powerful position and let it corrupt them. I pray that Pope Francis continues his ways and does not let the position go to his head. According to this article the pope has an extensive title, “His full title is ‘bishop of Rome, vicar of Jesus Christ, successor of St Peter, prince of the apostles, supreme pontiff of the universal church, patriarch of the west, primate of Italy, archbishop and metropolitan of the Roman province, sovereign of the state of Vatican City.’” Try saying that three times fast! When announced to the world, the cardinals said Rome had been given a bishop. Since then Pope Francis has referred to himself as the bishop of Rome and not vicar of Christ or any other of the official titles. To his close friends he still goes by Bergoglio and he signs his documents with Francis. As the article goes on it talks about the pope and security. Since the shooting of Pope John Paul II, there has been a bulletproof Popemobile. Pope Francis has chosen to forgo the bulletproof Popemobile and has been traveling in an open jeep. Along with having an open jeep he has also gotten out of it several times to greet people, and he enjoys walking among the crowds freely.
